Fixing issues with typing to speak (Rylo Microphone driver)

Troubleshooting steps for when Rylo Sidekick's type-to-speak feature isn't available or isn't working.

Fixing issues with typing to speak (Rylo Microphone driver)

The text box to type isn't showing up during my call

This means the Rylo Microphone driver isn't installed yet, or needs updating. Go to Settings → Driver (before or after a call — not during one) and follow the install or update prompt. You'll need your Mac's admin password, since installing briefly restarts a system audio service.

Settings says I can't install or update right now

The driver can't be installed or updated while you're on a live call, since it briefly restarts your Mac's audio system. Finish or leave your call, then try again.

It says the driver needs updating before I can use type-to-speak

Go to Settings → Driver and click update. This is required (rather than optional) when the installed driver is too old to work with the current version of Sidekick.

It says my driver is newer than what this version of the app supports

Update Rylo Sidekick itself (Settings → About → Check for updates) rather than the driver — this happens when the driver has been updated ahead of the app.

My voice stopped being transcribed after I typed a message

This can happen with some Bluetooth headsets, which stop capturing audio once they're no longer the active input device. Switch to your Mac's built-in microphone and your voice will start transcribing again.
