System requirements for Rylo Sidekick

Rylo Sidekick currently runs on Mac, and requires macOS 14.2 (Sonoma) or later.

Why the version requirement?

Sidekick needs a Mac feature called Core Audio Process Taps to hear the other participants on your call — this is what lets it caption both sides of the conversation without you changing any audio settings yourself. That feature isn't available on macOS versions older than 14.2, so Sidekick can't run on them.

To check your macOS version: click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen → About This Mac. If you're on an older version, update macOS first, then install Sidekick.

Windows

Rylo Sidekick for Windows is on our roadmap but isn't available yet. If you're on Windows today, Rylo Phone (our mobile app) is the best way to get captioned calls in the meantime.

What else do I need?

  • A working microphone (built-in or external) — unless you plan to only type your side of the conversation, in which case Sidekick doesn't need mic access at all.

  • An internet connection, for live captioning and calendar sync.

  • About 250MB of free disk space for the app and its on-device language models.
